Point a Hover domain at your church website

Do this

1. 1Publish your site first. Hover records start moving in about 15 minutes. Your old site goes then.
2. 2Sign in at hover.com. Hover asks for a two-step code — app, text, or the account's email inbox. Have it ready.
3. 3Domains → your domain. This is the Overview page.
4. 4Click DNS.
5. 5Find the row with Hostname @, Type A, value 216.40.34.41. Click Edit on it.
6. 6Replace IP address with the value from the domain screen. Save.
7. 7Click Add a record. Type CNAME. Hostname www. Target Name or Target Host from the domain screen. TTL leave it. Save.
8. 8Back to the domain screen. It says Live on its own.

4 traps

• The @ row already existsHover ships every domain an A record at @ pointing to 216.40.34.41. Edit it. A second one splits your traffic — the site loads about half the time.
• If the row has no EditTick the checkbox on the @ A row only. Bulk edit → Delete. Then Add a record. Hostname @. Type A. IP address from the domain screen. Never tick a second row — your MX rows sit in the same list and the same delete.
• Connect is the wrong toolConnect writes DNS for about 40 partners — Squarespace, Shopify, Weebly, Etsy. We are not one. Open Connect — some views call it More. If a service is listed, click the X beside it. Click Disconnect. Left connected, its records come back over yours.
• Hover must hold the nameserversOverview lists Nameservers. It must show ns1.hover.com and ns2.hover.com. Anything else means the DNS tab is not what answers for your domain — records save there and nothing reads them. Do not change them back. Whoever runs those nameservers holds your MX records too, and switching to Hover's takes your church email with them. Stop and tell us.

Do not touch

Nameservers on the Overview page. Changing them moves your church email, not just your website. On DNS: **MX · TXT · SRV · the mail row · the * row.** MX is your church email — deleting one stops mail silently. TXT proves your mail is yours — deleting one sends your outgoing email to spam. Leave the * row alone.

Not working

• Nothing after 30 minutesThe nameservers are not Hover's. Check the Overview page.
• www shows a Hover pageThe www record did not save. Hover's * row is catching it.
• Site loads sometimes, not alwaysTwo @ A records. Delete the one still on 216.40.34.41.
• Hover would not save the recordOne already exists with that hostname. Edit that one instead.
• The old site came backA Connect partner or a Forwards entry is still set. Remove it.
• Email stoppedAn MX record was edited. Tell us, do not keep changing.
