Connect your domain
Point a Wix domain at your church website
Two records. About 5 minutes. Then usually under an hour.
The records
An example. Use the values on your own domain screen, which has a copy button beside each one — ours can change.
Do this
- 1Publish your site first. Wix is not instant — your Wix site goes dark as soon as the records spread.
- 2Wix account → Domains → the Domain Actions icon (...) next to your domain → Manage DNS Records. Not Settings → Domains inside a site — that page has no DNS.
- 3Find the A (Host) section. Hover the row for your domain. Click Edit, then Got it.
- 4Leave Host Name exactly as Wix set it. Replace Value with the address from the domain screen. Leave TTL. Click Save, then Save Changes in the pop-up.
- 5Find the CNAME (Aliases) section. Hover the row showing
www.before your domain. Click Edit, then Got it. - 6Leave Host Name exactly as Wix set it. Replace Value with the address from the domain screen. Leave TTL. Click Save, then Save Changes in the pop-up.
- 7Back to the domain screen. It says Live on its own.
4 traps
- Edit, do not addWix already made both records. The
Arow shows your domain name. TheCNAMErow showswww.before your domain and points at an address ending.wixdns.net. Add a second and Wix says Hostname already in use. - Save twiceSave on the row is not the end. Save Changes in the pop-up is what writes it.
- Your Wix site goes darkThat is correct. The domain stays assigned to it. Afterwards never click Assign to a site or Assign to a different site in that same menu, and decline the Domain Assistant's Check and update your DNS records — each one puts Wix's own records back.
- Pointing means Wix is not in chargeIf Wix connected the domain by pointing, Wix does not hold the records. Manage DNS Records is missing or has no effect. Use the guide for the company you bought the domain from.
Do not touch
MX (Mail exchange) · TXT (Text) · NS (Name servers). MX is your church email — change one and mail stops silently. In CNAME (Aliases) edit only the www row; rows like autodiscover or _domainkey are email too. Do not click connect a business email in the MX row.
Not working
- Edit is greyed out or missingThe domain is still assigned to a Wix site. Domain Actions (...) → Unassign from this site → Unassign Domain. Then edit.
MXis not touched. - Wix would not save the recordHostname already in use. One exists — edit it, do not add.
- One address works, not the otherThe other record did not save. Open it and check Value.
- Nothing after an hourWix says up to 48 hours. Wait, then check both Value fields.
- No Manage DNS Records, or edits there change nothingThe domain is connected to Wix by pointing. Change the records where you bought the domain.
- Email stoppedAn
MXrecord was changed. Tell us, do not keep changing.
Please read. This is a guide, not professional advice. The Wix dashboard changes without notice, so what you see may not match what is written here. These settings also control your church email, and a wrong change can stop mail arriving without any obvious sign. If anything does not match, or you are not sure, stop and ask whoever manages your Wix account — or ask us before you change it. You are making these changes in your own Wix account, and we cannot be responsible for them.
