Free church directory software

Your congregation in one shared record instead of three half-right ones — contact details, mailing addresses, household links, membership status, tags and notes. Import the spreadsheet you have now, and give your whole staff the same copy. Free, for real.

Yes, it's free — and it stays free.Your directory for up to 1,000 people, with import and export included. No credit card, no expiring trial.
1

Bring what you already have. Upload a CSV and your names, emails and phone numbers come straight in. Everything else — addresses, birthdays, status — you fill in from the person's record as you go.

2

Group them into households. Link spouses, children and parents to each other, so a family reads as a family instead of five unrelated rows that happen to share a surname.

3

Give your staff the same copy. Everyone you invite works from one directory that is current for all of them. Export the whole thing back to a spreadsheet whenever you like — nothing is locked in.

01 · The directoryFree

Everyone, in one place your staff shares.

Names, contact details, membership status and tags in a single list you can search and filter — instead of an old printed booklet, a contact list on the office computer, and whatever the person who runs check-in keeps on their phone. Add someone once and every list they belong to is right.

02 · The person recordFree

More than a name and a phone number.

Each person holds what a church actually keeps: title, birthday and anniversary, gender and marital status, the full mailing address, how they found you, their first visit, membership status, and a notes timeline that keeps its dates. Household links connect them to their family.

03 · Changes in bulkFree

Fix forty rows without opening forty rows.

Tick the people you mean and set their membership status, move them to a campus, or add a tag to all of them at once. It is the part of keeping a directory current that a spreadsheet makes tedious enough that nobody does it.

Questions before you dive in

Is this really free church directory software?

Yes. You get the real Ministry Planner people directory — free for up to 1,000 people, no credit card and no expiring trial. Paid plans start at $9.99/mo for the whole church and raise the limit; nothing you have entered changes when you upgrade.

Is this a full church database or ChMS?

Not in the way Breeze, Servant Keeper or Church Community Builder mean it, and it is worth being straight about that. There are no custom fields, no saved segments, no duplicate-merge tool, and no printed directory or mailing labels. What you get is the directory itself — every person, their contact details and address, their household, their status, tags and notes — shared properly across your staff, and free. If custom fields are the thing you cannot do without, we are not the right tool yet.

Can I import our existing spreadsheet?

Yes, as a CSV — first name, last name, email and phone come in automatically, and duplicate email addresses are skipped. The other columns are not mapped on import yet, so addresses, birthdays and membership status get filled in from each person's record afterwards. Export works the other way whenever you want the whole directory back as a spreadsheet.

Can we import straight from Planning Center or Breeze?

Not on the free plan. Planning Center and Church Community Builder sync are paid features, and Breeze is not connected at all today. From any of them, export a CSV and import that — it is the same five minutes, and your data is yours either way.

How does it handle families and households?

You link people to each other — spouse, child, parent, sibling — and the family reads as a family from any member's record. It is a link between people rather than a household with its own name and mailing address, so if what you need is one envelope per family, the printable Family Directory template below is the better fit for now.

Can we print a directory from it?

No — there is no print or mailing-label output in the app today, and it would be easy to imply otherwise on a page like this. The free Church Membership Directory spreadsheet template does print, including a one-row-per-household version with an opt-out column, and it is linked below.

Who can see it?

Only the people you invite to your church's workspace, and volunteers do not get access to it at all. Home addresses, children's names and birthdays sit behind an account rather than in a spreadsheet that can be forwarded — which is the single biggest thing a directory in a file gets wrong.

What happens when we pass 1,000 people?

The free plan caps at 1,000 people — enough for most churches to hold their whole congregation. The Plant plan at $9.99/mo removes the cap for the whole church with no per-person fee, and everything you have entered carries over exactly as it is. Nothing is deleted and nothing is held hostage — you can export the lot at any point.

One directory. One copy. This week.

Import what you have, link the families, and give your staff a church directory that is finally the same for all of them.
