01 · People directoryFree

Everyone who serves, in one place.

Names, phones, emails, campuses, tags, and serving history — searchable and filterable instead of buried in tab seventeen of a spreadsheet only one person understands. Add someone once and every list they belong to updates.

02 · Positions boardFree

Not just who they are — what they can do.

The Positions board turns your roster into a serving depth chart: every role in a column, every trained person tagged to it. The question 'who else can run sound?' finally has an instant answer.

03 · Team HubFree

A home base for your team.

Your roster lives alongside a team space with chat, docs, and projects — so the people list and the conversation about the people are finally in the same place.

Questions before you dive in

Is this really free church volunteer management software?

Yes. The free plan gives you the real Ministry Planner people directory and positions board — free for 1 team and up to 50 volunteers, no credit card, no expiring trial. Paid plans (from $9.99/mo) add more teams and the rest of the workspace.

Can I import the spreadsheet we use today?

Yes — upload a CSV with names, emails, and phone numbers and your roster is populated in about a minute. Duplicate emails are skipped automatically, and you can export everything back out any time, so there's no lock-in.

We also need to schedule these volunteers. Is that included?

Scheduling is its own free tool. If putting people on a schedule with RSVP links is what you're after, sign up for the free scheduler instead — it includes this entire roster plus the scheduling boards, so you get both. This page's plan is for churches that just need the directory.

Does this include background checks, volunteer applications, or hour tracking?

No — and those are the three things “volunteer management” can mean elsewhere, so it is worth saying plainly. Ministry Planner does not run or store background checks, does not host an application workflow, and does not log volunteer service hours. What it manages is who your volunteers are, what teams they are on, and which roles they are cleared to serve. If you need the other three today, our free Volunteer Onboarding & Background Check Tracker and Volunteer Application Form templates cover them in a spreadsheet.

Do volunteers see the roster?

No — the roster is a staff tool. Only the people you invite to your workspace can see it, and personal details stay inside your church's account.

What happens when we pass 50 volunteers?

The free plan caps at 50 people; the Plant plan at $9.99/mo raises the limits and adds up to 3 teams. Everything you've entered carries over exactly as it is.
